| Adding to this, Les Mis came back twice and ran for 1 year, 3 months and then 2 years, 6 months. Cats came back for 1 year, 5 months. Miss Saigon was back for 10 months. So I would say the evidence actually suggests the exact opposite: theater has changed a lot since the 80s and 90s and these mega musicals don't have the same commercial appeal they once did.
