Most of the books that came out around the time of his passing didn't add much the available literature, and I have a few in a small pile to sell to a used bookstore when I get around to it. Except one, that I found to be a terrific addition to my library:

Sondheim: His Life, His Shows, His Legacy by Stephen M. Silverman
I picked it up in a bookstore out of curiosity, assuming it would be overly familiar and I'd put it back down, but to my surprise, I couldn't put it down and walked out of the store with a new purchase! The writing is engaging, the coverage is comprehensive and the book is beautifully laid out, with plenty of footnotes, pictures and sidebar sections not found elsewhere——much like Sondheim's own pair of books——and the benefit of being able to include his entire career. I learned a lot, I was reminded of a lot, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
