It's very admirable that he's taking a pay cut but it's worth noting that PH doesn't pay as much as the other major NYC non-profits do, and the other leaders of those theaters, who have done much less for the sustaining of the NYC non-revival-based theater world, were already making more than him.

At least that is my understanding.

And I am as big an advocate for ADs at non-profits being paid less, especially when the artists creating and executing the shows are not being paid well (which is true generally across the board). But if this where any other business than theater, if the theater you run was responsible for and accepting the Tony Award for this season's Best Play and Best Musical 2 seasons ago... you'd probably be getting a major bonus.
