Late in the original Broadway run of A Chorus Line (1975-1990), I remember Variety reporting that it was often at around 38.5% capacity. The producers weren't keeping it open at a loss to set a record (like Hal Prince did for Fiddler outrunning Life With Father), so I'm not sure what the thinking was.
