I invested in a few shows on the '80s and I suppose the offering papers probably listed what the break-even points were estimated to be, but I don't have access to them at the moment. But in the '60s I read religiously the weekly edition of Variety, which posted break-even figures as shows opened. As I recall, many shows, both musicals and plays, could run at about 50% of capacity without losing money.
