Kara Young gave a wonderful salute to her dad, especially on Father's Day. But at the same time, her speech, at 3 minutes, 15 seconds, felt far too long.

I believe only Kecia Lewis edged her out. But they were never threatened with playoff music, unlike Jeremy Strong, who ran a little over 2 minutes.

As time goes on, acceptance speeches seem to get longer with lengthier laundry lists. At the other end of the spectrum, Melba Moore won her 1970 Tony for the musical of ''Purlie,'' playing Lutiebelle, the same character that Young played. Moore got onstage: ''I don't what to say. Just thank you.'' Then she left.
