Love ALL the overtures folks have mentioned! Here are some that were overlooked (or that I missed) that are Top Drawer:
110 IN THE SHADE (long awaited after being recorded but left off the original album.)
JAMAICA (Arlen...sigh!) (was only on the stereo or was it mono? album version)
PAL JOEY (1951 Studio recording--glorious!)
WILDCAT (CY sigh!)
BOUNCE (grand, old-style overture)
TOP HAT (London Cast recording 2012--very snazzy Berlin)
And from that huge flop Movie AT LONG LAST LOVE has always been a favorite Porter overture (I know, it's a movie, but...) |
