It was a minor hit, not a major one. It ran for under a year.
Elena was magnetic in the 2006 London mounting and despite some odd vowels/articulation, she was in very good voice. She went on to give stellar performaces in both PASSION and PIAF at The Donmar (PIAF transferred with her in tow and she was remarkable). But some thing clearly happened between 2006-2013 that impaired her voice. It is evident on the Bway Revival cast recording that something was amiss.
But I agree about the production. It was dull and unimaginative. Nothing beats the H Prince original (though Jamie Lloyd's 2019 staging in Regents Park was a wild and adventurous take that deserves another look). |
