Whenever I go over to TKTS just before curtain, I assume that I'm going to get house seats. Usually I do. Sometimes not.

I consider that one of the perks of living in NYC and knowing when to jump on ticket options -- and have the flexibility to do so. (There are some fun tricks for the Met Opera as well.)

My issue here is why there are so many good seats held back by the box office in advance from retail ticket buyers (as I was a few weeks ago) only to find them sold at a discount at TKTS. This is beyond the few VIP house seats that are held to the last minute -- and which I was able to bag on performance date.

Footnote: I saw Maybe Happy Ending (which is fantastic) from Row C front mezzanine, center and now from Row F orchestra center. It's BETTER from the third row in the mezzanine. You get a better overview of the whole magnificent set as it unfolds and unfolds. Row F was too close. You had to look up. Incidentally, the sound system is one of the best I've ever experienced at a B'Way musical, at both those seats in the mezz and in the orchestra. It wasn't blaring loud. Plus, the performers understood the concept of diction so that you could understand every word spoken and sung. When was the last time you experienced anything like that? Certainly not at the overwrought, over amplified Cabaret, Great Gatsby, etc, etc.
