| Although all the musical numbers were recorded individually because of the available technology at the time, the 1899 British musical comedy Florodora is sometimes cited as the first true original cast "album" because the majority of the numbers were recorded and sold commercially (I believe the recordings were made during the very successful New York run on Broadway starting in 1900--someone correct me if I'm wrong about that). |
