The first (if it is the first) of what I'm sure will be many. Also, far fewer bookings in the future, except I suppose from performers and groups not horrified by what is going on. And I am doubtful than in D.C., those performers and groups will do the kind of business needed to keep the Kennedy Center in decent financial shape.

Back in October, for the first time I submitted a recommendation for the KC honors. The person whose name I submitted was Sherrill Milnes. I was going to follow it up with a recommendation of George Shirley, but then I got bogged down in putting together the notes on the reasons for the recommendation. Now I won't bother. I can't imagine that George Shirley would accept if he were chosen. I hope Milnes would not.
