"Say a Prayer for Me Tonight" was not dropped from the 1973 stage version of GIGI; it was never used in the production at all. When asked why at the time, Alan Jay Lerner said that he had never liked the song, thought it sounded like "a cello solo," and, in any case, it would be too hard for Gigi to sing to a cat on stage. Lerner didn't use it in the 1985 London stage version of GIGI either. He didn't even want to use the song in the original 1958 film. However, Frederick Loewe did, so he played it for MGM producer Arthur Freed, who agreed with Loewe. Lerner was outvoted.

You may have been thinking of "The Parisians," which was written for the film and used initially in the 1973 stage version, though with a partially rewritten lyric. However, Lerner thought the song wasn't working on stage, so he and Loewe replaced it with "The Earth and Other Minor Things" during the out-of-town tryout tour. Lerner also used "The Earth and Other Minor Things" in London.
