What I find especially interesting about George Rose's win for MY FAIR LADY is that this was not the first time he played the role on Broadway. In 1968, he played "Doolittle" opposite the stars of BAKER STREET (Fritz Weaver and Inga Swenson) at City Center. In past years, stars of City Center were nominated for Tony Awards, though this qualification varied from year to year (Among such nominees were Bob Fosse in PAL JOEY and Sally Ann Howes in BRIGADOON). Had that been the case around 1968, Rose would have been disqualified. - Michael Colby
