You don't actually know what seats were available at TKTS. Maybe they were scattered single seats, which are hard to sell and would explain why they were around all day. But it's also true that some shows seem to be holding back a decent number of orchestra seats. I would definitely be annoyed at buying tickets that were not so good when I could have gotten better seats for less (if that is in fact the case here).
I am personally finding it kind of tiring to deal with held-back seats, dynamic pricing, etc. I sometimes try to gauge what's happening with seats by checking out a potential show's seat release pattern and TKTS pattern, but that takes some planning, and it's some amount of work. I know this new ticketing world is here to stay, but I find it adds a certain layer of stress and annoyance to the whole theatergoing experience, particularly for those of us who don't live in New York and have to do some amount of planning. |
