| There are a lot of examples of musicals based on material that had already been turned into a movie, drawing a lot of inspiration from the movie version. For example "my fair lady" includes scenes Shaw wrote for the screenplay adaptation of "Pygmalion", and Lerner talked about watching the movie during his adaptation. Similarly "The King and I" drew from the film adaptation of "Anna and the King" to the extent that Rex Harrison was approached to play the role, and "the sound of music" was largely inspired by a film of the story of the Von Trapp Family Singers. | |
