The Great Gatsby is an expensive show capitalized at $25 million with weekly running costs at probably around $925,000 (or perhaps a bit higher). The show has been running for 10 months or 43 weeks. Its average weekly gross has been approximately $1,272,500, which is enough for it to keep running, but not exactly enough to put it on a path to recoupment. It really needs to be grossing in the range of $1.75 to $2 million per week. It's definitely not a smash, nor is it a hit.

If it can consistently maintain its current pace, it might possibly recoup in 2-1/2 to 3 years or so. If its weekly grosses begin to dip below $1 million, it will probably have to close. The economic outlook for big, expensive Broadway musicals right now is not very rosy.

Full disclosure, I saw The Great Gatsby on 6/20/2024. I bought a $40 general rush ticket and had a great seat. I found it to be a solid, entertaining musical play, a good show, but not a great one. It was worth seeing, but not something for which I would buy a full price ticket. Just IMO, of course.
