If we're talking about new plays, there can be more nuance, because an actor on a new play is almost certainly contributing to the development of the character, to the point where they become something of a co-author. If the do all of that work, and then a bigger name comes in and fills those shoes and gets the recognition, there's reasonable questions about the ethics of how we compensate performers for their role in the longer term development process. | |
