I understand, don't worry I'm not blaming you for this stuff. I am just pushing back on the idea of the value of the factor that does seem observably patterned in their decisions (the same director = new, new production = revival), almost as if the committee were reading this too.

I wonder what they'd have said if Assassins first broadway mounting was directed by Jerry Zaks recreating his original (nearly unseen, relatively speaking) production.

But Floyd Collins is being directed by the same director, and has never been on broadway and had a very very short run off-broadway... is that a new musical? I sure wish I would be considered that because it deserves Best Score, best Book, Best Orchestrations and Best Musical... but even I can't pretend I don't think it's been a part of the American musical theater repertoire for 30 years, even if it isn't done all that often (I've nonetheless been able to see 3 productions of it in 3 different states).
