Newman's score is a beauty. I loved the book and I honestly believe that the musical was a better adaptation of it, but the film is worth seeing. Mandy Patinkin and Debbie Allen would have been very much at home in a musical adaptation, though in her case not necessarily the Flaherty/Ahrens version.
