Neither of those should have won. And I agree with others that while English is a perfectly fine play, it also shouldn’t have won.
What should have won that year is A Case for the Existence of God by Samuel Hunter. As to why it didn’t even get named a Finalist, my guess is that it had nothing to do with the quality of playwriting. The committee in recent years seems to take other factors into greater consideration. |
