| I enjoyed it well enough, but there wasn't anything really *exciting* about it. There was a certain sameness to a lot of the songs, and the staging had an awful lot of walking around in circles. There wasn't a "water-cooler" moment to fuel word of mouth, like the rumble in THE OUTSIDERS did. Perhaps this was the kind of story that really worked better on the page or in the close-up medium of film. The cool reception by the Tonys and the subsequent lack of a performance on the telecast probably caused it to slip further to the edge of the radar too. In so many cases, it's such a fine line between sparking interest and not. |
