''And Javier Bardem, not Cooper Koch, was nominated for "Monsters: [The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story]." I wonder if the SAG nominators were lazy and only name-checked Bardem because he's the bigger name. I can't imagine anyone watching Episode 5 of ''Monsters,'' called ''The Hurt Man,'' and not being blown away by Koch's tour de force. It's a gripping, 33-minute episode in which Koch, as Erik Menendez, recalls the sexual and psychological abuse he suffered as a child. Koch did it all in one take, with the camera focused only on him & never leaving his face. If he did that on Broadway, he'd win a Tony. Koch got a Golden Globe nomination for it, and with any luck, the Emmy voters will notice him, too. ''Why are there separate categories for lead and featured performances for films but not for TV?'' I think the SAG Awards have always been like that. TV actors SHOULD have lead and featured categories, just like the Tonys have them for Broadway. |
