The UK government gives a tax break to theater producers of up to 40% of their budget. That goes for commercial West End productions and I assume regional productions. But the article says that regional theater in the UK is struggling. The article also says that the strong dollar is encouraging tourism in London and probably US investment in London co-productions. But outside of London (and for plenty of people inside London) the UK is a mess with record numbers of people in poverty.
