| The 1960 Random House hardcover and 1994 TCG slightly revised version have Madam. The old Tams script has mostly Mme., but where it is spelled out (when Agnes says it in the burlesque house dressing, when Rose says it at the end, and in a couple of other places), it it Madame. But in Original Story By, where Laurents discussed his puzzlement over Rose being referred as Momma Rose when she is never called that in the play, he spelled it Madame. So, really, I think you can both say, "I'm a pretty girl, Momma!" :) I don't see why the official script of the current production should be considered any more authoritative than the old Tams script. |
