Hats off to Red Bull Theater for their terrific benefit concert of Two Gentlemen of Verona at Symphony Space last night. It was a joyful romp from the beginning, but actually got even sillier and more fun in Act 2.
The whole cast was well-prepared and on the same comic page. Jordan Donica and Jin Ha were relaxed and sexy. Taylor Iman Jones has a great voice and some killer comedy chops. Chuck Cooper was also a hoot doing suitably saucy choreo with Kelvin Moon Luh (and the company) during Thurio’s Samba.
John Guare was in the audience.
It was a much-needed boost to end the year.
(And no, 2Gents still shouldn’t have gotten the Tony over Follies, but it’s great to see it up and pumping again.) |
