I immediately thought of the 1964 post-Broadway tour that played Dallas, Denver and a bunch of cities in CA. Playbill is just taking the [incorrect] info from the press release.

I did some searching through newspapers online for the late 1990s production and your memory is correct! A tour was produced by Troupe America, a "traveling theatrical group based in Minneapolis, founded in 1993 by Curt Wollan." It played two performances at the Oshkosh Grand Opera House on Nov. 30, 1997, and a bunch of other one-nighters/split weeks. Steve Grimm played Kris Kringle. Oddly, none of the press coverage mentions Meredith Willson or any composer/book writer at all....so I wonder if it maybe was a different adaptation that used some of Willson's songs?
