| And of course, as early as 1962-3 Steve Allen was doing sequences where cameras followed him and other cast members out onto the Hollywood streets around his studio near the Hollywood Ranch market. For the direct of SUNSET, this is a trope he uses over and over and over - it has no meaning in SUNSET, it just gets him noticed. It did have a purpose in his (dreadful) DOLLS HOUSE, but it didn't work because by that point the audience was laughing at all the drama. |
