This isn't a criticism, just an observation.
A relatively novel approach used again gets described as recycling an idea or concept or gimmick (as many use to describe Doyle's productions with actors playing instruments) until it is used enough (and in more productions by more production teams) that it becomes somewhat normal.
In contrast, we wouldn't likely say a director who frequently uses rotating sets is recycling an idea.
And it is worth remembering I that this could be the first time many theatergoers see the use of live video in a production. I had friends attend Sunset and that was definitely their experience so they were especially impressed. |
