| Deadline.com reports that Max is making a new French TV series based on Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' classic 1782 novel, ''Les Liaisons Dangerouses'' (Dangerous Liaisons). It'll be called ''Merteuil,'' but called ''The Seduction'' outside of France. It'll star Anamaria Vartolomei and Vincent Lacoste. There already are various versions on the big screen: ''Dangerous Liaisons'' (1988), the Oscar-winning adaptation by Christopher Hampton, starring John Malkovich and Glenn Close (who arguably should've won her Oscar for it); ''Valmont'' (1989), directed by Oscar winner Milos Forman and starring Colin Firth and Annette Bening, and ''Cruel Intentions'' (1999), set in modern-day New York, starring Ryan Philippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar. On the New York stage, there was the 2008 Roundabout revival, starring Ben Daniels and Laura Linney, and the 2016 revival, starring Liev Schreiber and Janet McTeer. I've even seen a musical of ''Les Liaisons Dangerouses'' called ''The Game.'' However, for me, nothing will ever compare to the original 1987 Broadway cast, from the Royal Shakespeare Co., directed by Howard Davies and starring the sexy and seductive duo of Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan. |
