| I can understand being irked by or looking negatively upon the seeming promise of touring followed by the announcement of Vegas instead. But I have a different take on the vote your heart campaign. I was at that lunch at John's (maybe you were too?). My perception was that there seemed to be an idea that Wicked was gaining momentum because it was the big popular flashy blockbuster type show. The type of show that often does win Best Musical. But most people I knew then (including myself) thought that Avenue Q was actually a better show (I think critics agreed as well). I think that vote your heart was meant to remind voters, or give them permission, to vote for the show they actually felt was best instead of jumping on the Wicked bandwagon in a sort of default way. I thought it was brilliant in its accuracy. |
