In one of my favorite books about Broadway when I was in high school was Broadway's Greatest Musicals by Abe Laufe. He used the cut off of 500 performances to define "Great musical."
He detested Stephen Schwartz's scores and was baffled at his success. When mentioning a Schwartz flop (can't recall which one), Laufe makes a comment like "Finally, Schwartz gets what he deserves." |
