Two Leonoras and two Manricos Make for a Memorable Trovatore.

Today's Sunday Matinee at the Metropolitan had major disruptions. Before the first act a woman came out and announced that the star soprano Angela Meade was physically distressed, but she'd play the famous heroine as well as she can. That turned out to be about 80%. After intermission Peter Gelb announced that she was to be replaced by a young woman who won an opera competition recently -- I couldn't catch her name. He also announced that star Michael Fabiano playing the dashing lead also felt ill, but would come on anyway. He did a very cumbersome, phlegmy 3rd Act and was replaced for the 4th. The acting was poor throughout, I guess because of thoughts other than theatrical or musical. It's such a silly (yet tragic) opera, but the music is amazing and the new Leonora had one bravura aria.
