Cohen's first attempt to revive "Hellzapoppin" was for Expo '67 in Montreal. It starred Soupy Sales.
The Jerry Lewis-Lynn Redgrave production, also produced by Cohen, opened in Baltimore on November 22, 1976 and closed in Boston on January 22, 1977. It had been scheduled to open on Broadway three weeks later. William Torbert Leonard's BROADWAY BOUND describes the show as "chaos pursuing disaster," with firings, resignations, lawsuits and counter suits. |
