I saw Blaine play Joanne opposite George Maharis in '72, and then Phyllis in Follies '73 (both on the Guber circuit) and Hortense in Zorba (bus and truck, Peoria, IL). She was wildly different in each, and superb. Had Follies run on Broadway and needed a second cast, Prince might've replaced Smith with her. As I noted elsewhere, she was absolutely believable as an ex-showgirl, not true of every Phyllis. |
