Actors’ ensembles in Europe seem to like Robert Wilson and want to be directed by him. And these are ensembles where the actors have quite a bit of say in who directs them. I don’t get it. I have always wanted to flee any Wilson production I have seen. His visual ideas are original, gorgeous and were highly influential for a generation. I am glad he’s still out there thrilling with his sumptuous visual hieroglyphics and boring anyone who wants anything more. Albee did appreciate the visual arts as an end in themselves. Who knows he might have supported this production. |
