Although Albee did indeed love absurdism and the avant-garde, he also loved language and was fiercely committed to the word of the playwright -- any playwright -- and as a career-long Dramatists Guild council member, he steadfastly fought against directors cutting or reshaping a writer's work against their consent. I find it hard to believe his estate would have given consent to this production at all. |
