I haven’t heard it yet, so I can’t weigh in on that. But I am firmly convinced of one thing: that LMM knows how to write for the theatre. I am not a fan of the styles of music used in IN THE HEIGHTS, and I had never heard his name before then. But I said to my kid, “this guy knows what a theatrical score needs. Wonder what he’ll do next?”
A concept album is a beginning. Once things get inside a theatre, it can evolve, as needed.
