The "Jesus/Asian" line is suggested as an alternate in the script IF Chip is Asian. There is no stipulation that he be Asian or played by an Asian actor, despite the original Broadway casting. Sorry.
The original Ivy Smith in On The Town (1944) was Sono Osato. But as in Spelling Bee, there's no stipulation that the role be played by an Asian simply because that's what was done in the original Broadway production.
In both cases, I would be happy to see Asian actors play those roles. But MikeM is making a false assumption. |
