Ijames wrote about gentrification in an African-American community, but it feels more like a debate. Despite the skills of the cast, the characters come off more like mouthpieces for their position, rather than actual people. Ijames also hints at something about spiritual ancestors, but it doesn't really pay off.
I missed Ijames' Pulitzer Prize-winning ''Fat Ham'' on Broadway, but hope to catch it at the San Francisco Playhouse (March 20-April 19) next year. |
