It's still possible -- you just have to get creative :)
I haven't tried in a while, but I successfully second act-ed WAITRESS and JAGGED LITTLE PILL.
It helps to have a Playbill that you can sort of hold in a clenched fist (so they don't see it isn't necessarily that show's Playbill), while also just walking directly into the theatre, cloaked around other patrons milling in the in-between space between lobby door, exterior door, and auditorium door. Walk with confidence, barely acknowledge the staff (like an asshole, you deserve to be there!), and move with purpose.
