| There are so many. Glynis Johns created Desiree in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and later played Mme. Armfeldt in an LA revival. Donna McKechnie has played Phyllis, Sally, and Carlotta in various incarnations of FOLLIES. In one of the productions where she played Carlotta, the four actors who had originated the "young" versions of Sally, Phyllis, Buddy, and Ben played the adult lead versions of the same characters, many years later. Bebe Neuwirth was the first Velma in the CHICAGO revival; she later went back in as Roxie and later as Mama Morton. Chita Rivera was the original Velma in 1975, and played a stint as Roxie in the revival. Many people have played more than one role in A CHORUS LINE. Notable ones: Kay Cole, the original Maggie, went back into the Broadway run years later as Diana. Jessica Lee Goldyn opened the Broadway revival as Val and closed it as Cassie. Tony Yazbeck played Al in the revival and Zach at City Center. Krista Rodriguez played Bebe in the revival and Diana at the Hollywood Bowl. Priscilla Lopez played Fastrada in PIPPIN during the original run and took over Berthe in the revival. John Rubinstein was the original Pippin and took over Charlemagne in the revival. Robert Goulet created Lancelot in CAMELOT and later played King Arthur in a revival. Audra McDonald played Carrie Pipperidge in the Lincoln Center CAROUSEL and later played Julie Jordan in the Carnegie Hall concert version with Hugh Jackman. Jessie Mueller was Carrie in the NY Phil concert and later played Julie in the most recent Broadway revival. Laura Benanti played Maria in the Broadway revival of THE SOUND OF MUSIC and Elsa in the live TV production. There are more... |
