| Maggie Task was a friend. She told me she played the role as she was directed to. She was perfectly capable of playing comedy and felt let down that she was never guided to do so. Interestingly, Maggie, as an original member of SWEENEY TODD, was an understudy to "Mrs. Lovett" (which Dorothy Loudon also played). It doesn't really matter—no one could have been more definitive as Miss Hannigan than Dorothy Loudon. (Apologies if a variation of this post emerges—an earlier attempt doesn't seem to have been finalized). |
