I saw the opening of WE last night at the Mark O'Donnell Theatre, a very comfortable state-of-the-art black box space in Brooklyn.
Director Kevin Ray devised an adaptation of a century-old Russian dystopian novel with his cast and designers. Some of the most complex and beautiful tech elements I've ever seen in an Off-Off Broadway show, with terrific original music and use of projections. The story is eerily relevant both to the Russian revolution (when it was written) and today's scary world. A sharp young cast led by the very charming Aaron Greenberg.
Only running through October 20. It's just a block from the Hoyt/Schermerhorn stop on the A train. Highly recommended. |
