I liked Wildhorn's scores for Jekyll & Hyde and The Scarlet Pimpernel, but I missed the original production of The Civil War because its stay on Broadway was so brief. I did manage to see one of the tours when it hit Chicago in Feb., 2000. Larry Gatlin and BeBe Winans headed the cast, which also included Mike Eldred, Keith Byron Kirk, and Michael Lanning from the Broadway cast. I agree that "Sarah" is an emotionally powerful song. In fact, I found the entire score rousing and enjoyable.

Besides the numbers you mentioned, I regard "By the Sword/Sons of Dixie", "Freedom's Child", "Old Gray Coat", "River Jordan", and many others particularly memorable. I am quite fond of the studio cast recording.
