I recognize that it repurposes recurring motifs in the score. It's the dramatic value or lack thereof: the bevy of shop owners and haberdashery attendants who swoop in and perform a cliched makeover. Its portrayal of prissy midcentury fellas in the clothing business was unappealingly stereotypical, and not especially amusing*. The placement in the piece made it expendable. A comparable moment was accomplished in the film in a sotto voce exchange between one wry salesman and Joe. Blown up to a group number felt like something out of a 1930s West End musical, and a lesser one.
*Exhibit A (Maybe it's just me, but brochure and kosher?)
