I imagine Broadway's choice to dim the lights or not dim the lights is done on a case-by-case basis, since not everyone is at the level of fame. Will Broadway be dimming its lights for Maggie Smith (who died Sept. 27)? Or for Ken Page (who, like Gavin Creel, died on Sept. 30)? In the past, it seems like it takes a while before any announcement is made, let alone which marquees will be dimmed. (Or why not all of them?) What's odd to me is that this press release announced the intention to dim the lights for Creel, without the actual date being specified. Meantime, the West End theaters already have dimmed the lights for Dame Maggie Smith on Oct. 1. |
