| Great example with Nicholas Nickleby--while the $100 ticket price was for both parts (standing room was $30), at $50 each part that was still significantly higher than the $35-40 top most musicals were charging. Of course back in those days, no one really knows how much tickets for hit shows were going for on the secondary market--but scalpers had ways of getting prime seats to hit shows and selling them at a significant premium. Now at least to some degree that premium is going back to the production and creators (though crazy high prices never look good and make Broadway seem unaffordable to most). | |
