It takes a lot of meticulous advance planning, but essentially every jump that a tour like this makes is analyzed before being approved. You look at the technical conditions for loud out of the venue you are leaving, the mileage, terrain, time of year, and technical conditions for the load in of the destination venue, for a start.

They do send tech specs ahead of time and there are certain things that the local crew can prepare in advance, but the bulk of the work has to be done after the show trucks and show crew arrive.

A show that is doing one night stops like this almost certainly does not incur the cost of having duplicate set pieces that can travel in advance. As dramedy mentioned Phantom has (had?--I think this was in the era of the Prince staging) advance set pieces that could be put in place before the bulk of the trucks arrived. But that show is monstrous and had to do this to make jumps that still contained multiple travel days, certainly never a one nighter. In fact it had to play multi week engagements anywhere it went in order to amortize the costs.

Some other options include: starting the performance in the origin city earlier and/or starting the performance later in the destination city. These cost--and you have to figure who pays for it--but...you can also start load-in earlier than normal, work through meal breaks, bring in catering, pay overtime, etc, etc. This applies to shows that play week-long cities too. I am sure some folks, espeically subscribers, have noticed that a particular tour does not have its normal Tuesday or Sunday evening performance. That is often to accomodate extra time for a longer jump in or out of that particular city.

Enjoy the show! BOM is so fun.
