I don't think Nathan should be as good-looking as Bradley Cooper. Mentioned in the deadline article linked by kieran is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who would be more right for it. (Actually, I think he's very good looking, but not in a traditional leading-man way.) He would at least perhaps bring some Jewishness to it. I imagine the Jewishness would be downplayed in a remake, and it wasn't really emphasized in the first film, but since Nathan actually has a small bit of Yiddish in the show, it might be good to have a Jewish actor in the role (and all the actors who played Nathan in the various incarnations of the original production were Jewish).
