I do think Lane was trying to play Nathan as Jewish. I never find him particularly convincing when playing Jewish characters, although he has played Jewish characters several times. That's not to say he wasn't good in those roles, just not especially convincing as Jewish. Whatever that really means.
Really, as discussed here a few years ago, a lot of the characters in Guys and Dolls are probably meant to be Jewish. |
